Monday 16 February 2009

I type you write!

I guess i have to do this after all...
Here's my BIO PEKA work.. copy first then reconfirm tomorrow. ( THIS IS JUST A GUIDDEE).
Don't need to do the variables, draw the diagrams and make sure you DO the technique.

Aim : To determine the structure and shape of the plant cell.

Problem statement : (do yourself, make sure it's a question and has a '?' )

Hypothesis : ( answer the question )

Materials : ( don't tell me you don't have the practical book )

Apparatus : ( uh.. the practical book? )

Technique : To examine the cell using light microscope.

( draw the diagrams from the practical book, for the procedure )

Procedure : (make sure it's in PAST PASSIVE form )
1) A scale leaf from an onion bulb is obtained as shown in figure (a).
2) (the rest do yourself thnx )

Discussion : ( do in paragraph form, don't need to copy the questions. Combine the answers together to make a paragraph )

Safety precaution :(do only lah just in case..I'll give one..)
1) make sure that no air bubbles are trapped under the cover slip.

Conclusion : (remember to put 'Hypothesis is accepted/not accepted )

DONE FOR PLANT CELLS, NOW FOR ANIMAL CELLS^^
The report for animal cells is very much the same with plant cells..
Just change the name of cells,the diagrams also change, the procedure.., iodine to methylene blue solution and the discussion..
Everything else is the same.

VictimOfIrony

No PEKA Guide

To those who are expecting me to post guides on doing the current Bio PEKA, please acknowledge the fact that I have no proper clue to do it either. So, I would like to issue an apology... that is all.

The only thing I know is that you have to draw those diagrams (the one you see in the microscope) on a piece of A4 paper. You can draw both diagrams on the same piece of paper if you want provided a diagram must use half of the paper. You can also draw individual diagrams on different pieces of paper, it's not a problem (Sources: Ameer).

That's about all I know... Sorry if it doesn't help much. You can try asking Ashmeer to post it since he has completed his. Just hope he would have some time to spare and rajin-ness to type it out.

Camwhores on Friday

As you people might have notice (who doesn't?), the dudes took lots of pictures with my camera last Friday x) Dayumn, like gay ohh, HAHA. JOKING LA -_- I'll be uploading them one by one :] To view all, do take a look at my Myspace album :) I'll be uploading it later on Facebook :D

: Mod Maths : Reminders : Homeworks :

Apologies for the late post. I wasn't able to post yesterday because I was really tired. So here it is, for those who went to the counselling on the day the notes were given.

[Mod Maths notes]
*Continue after the notes on subsets in Venn Diagram*

4. The empty set is a subset of any set.

5. Every set is a subset for itself.

Example:
<------->P = { a,b }
Subset of P = {a}, {b}, { }, {a,b}

6. The number of subsets for a set within element is 2ⁿ
Hence, n(P) = 2
-----=>number of subsets for P = 2²
<----------------------------------> = 4

Question : It is given that set A = { a, b, c}, B = { a, b, c, d, e, f}, C = { d, e, f} and D = {b, c, e, f}

a) Complete each of the following by using the symbol "¢" or "с"
  i) A __ B
 ii) C __ B
iii) C __ D
iv) D __ A

b) Draw Venn Diagrams to show the relationship between
 i) A and B
ii) C and B

c) State the number of subsets for set A and set D

set A = 2ⁿ
<->A = 2³
<--> = 8

set D = 2ⁿ
<-> D = 2^4
<-> D = 16

d) List the subsets for set A and set D

Subsets of A = {a}, {b}, {c}, { }, {a, b}, {b, c}, {a, c}, {a, b, c}

Subsets of D = {b}, {c}, {e}, {f}, {b, c}, {c, e}, {e, f}, {b, e}, {b, f}, {c, f}, {b, c, e}, {c, e, f}, {b, c, f}, {b, e, f}, {b, c, e, f}, { }

Universal Set

1. The universal set, ξ is a set which consists of all the elements under consideration in a given discussions.

Example: ξ = { whole numbers from 1 to 8 }
<------->A = {3, 4, 5}

2. ξ = { letters in the word 'insect' }
> Q = { vowels }

Complement of Set

1. The complement of a set A (written as  A') is a set in universal set, ξ which contains all the elements not found in A.

Example: ξ = { whole numbers from 1 to 8 }
<------> A = { 3, 4, 5}

A' = {1, 2, 6, 7, 8}

2.  ξ = { letters in the word 'insect' }
> Q = { vowels }

Q' = { n, s, c, t}

Number of complements in set A

n(A') = n(ξ) - n(A)

: PJK Uncertainty : Wishes :

Based on the above title, it's quite apparent what i'm going to say. Since i'm not very sure about tomorrow's activity, I advice you to bring your sports attire because we had PK last week. So the probability of having PJ tomorrow is quite high. So.... that's all for the boys, I guess.

As for the girls, I have no clue at all. MAYBE Arina will post later, but it still depends on the circumstances so don't hope too much. That is all.

Ah yes, homework. Complete the KOMSAS exercise today. I'll be submitting those books tomorrow.

Wishes: Happy Belated birthday to Keith. Yesterday was your birthday, too bad it fell during holiday. You could have got a series of rumble from us. XD

Sunday 8 February 2009

Poll Closed

Recently, I was inspired by a certain picture and from the marvelous inspiration, I decided to start a new poll and ended the old one. If you are not visually-impaired, you should be able to see the poll section on >>> side. The poll's lifespan is shorter than the last one, though. So, please spam as much as you want. Talk about good news for spammers. Haha. By the way, batik cloth won by 10+ votes in the previous poll.

p/s: Anyone who's able to spare wrapping plastic around the size of a table, please notify me via cellphone, e-mail or the cbox and bring it to school on Tuesday. For your convenience, it's for the reading corner. Oh, Johanan's picture is posted below.

EDIT: I move both the playlist down so the blog will load faster. Apologies if it's not to your liking.

ANYHOOS, Today's happenings :

Jasmeen's Books Got Wet
To be honest, i have no idea what happened today D: But when i came in the class with Alvin and Salman, i saw WET books, empty water bottle on a table near the back door. OH OH, and a WET pink Roxy bag tergantung at the window! According to Alvin, a next door class dude threw her bag but i have no idea how the bag and books got wet -_-' Someone gantung her bag at the window to help dry it off, AWWW. But Jasmeen malu because her bag kena tayang x) Details, ask Jasmeen herself. She'd like to say thanks to whoever helped her dry her books off (though it didn't dry off) that day :D Jasmeen, May your books dry off and you'll have an alasan to NOT hantar your BM work :P To the dude who started it all, YOU SUCK -.-

Aqil Bullied
The three musketeers (Alvin, Johanan & Salman) threw Aqil's pencil box around on the way to the Physics Lab :O AND during class with Cikgu Shukur, i guess he told teacher about it and Cikgu declare him as his new 'ANAK ANGKAT' :] So dear classmates, we are not allowed to bully him around Cikgu tau ;)

Prefects AWAY

:1.5 Scientific Investigations (Physics): Misc. Notices:

As I have mentioned in the previous post, the 1.5 Scientific Investigations notes dated on Feb 2, 2009; Monday. Deepest thanks goes to Hilman for providing the neatly-written notes.

Tuesday <----> Feb 3, 2009
1.5 Scientific Investigations
The process of scientific investigation

a) Inference
b) Hypothesis
c) Aim
d) Variable + Operational Definition
e) Apparatus
f) Procedure
g) Observation
h) Analysis
i) Discussion
j) Conclusion

A) Inference
1. Inference is an early conclusion to what is observed. The conclusion can be correct or incorrect.

2. Example: When the length of a simple pendulum increases, the period oscillation also increases.

B) Hypothesis
1. Making a smart guess or tentative explanation about the phenomenon based on the observation.

2. Example: The longer the length of a simple pendulum, the longer will the period of oscillation be.

C) Aim
1. When an experiment is carried out, an aim has to be stated so that all the investigating effort is centred on the main subject.

2. Example: To find the relationship between the length of a simple pendulum and the square of its period oscillation.

D) Variable
1. A variable is a factor that affects the results of an experiment.
- Manipulated variable: A primary variable which causes other secondary variables to change.

- Responding variable: A secondary variable which changes in response to the change in the manipulated variable.

- Fixed variable: A variable which is always constant throughout the experiment.

2. Example: a) Manipulated variable: Length
<------------>b) Responding variable: Period, T
<------------>c) Fixed variable: Mass of the pendulum bob

E) Operational definition
1. Operational definition is required to define the manipulated and responding variable to be measured.

2. Example: Measure the length of a simple pendulum using a metre ruler. Measure the period of oscillation by using a stopwatch.

F) Apparatus
1. Needed to be listed according to its specifications so as to ensure the success of the experiment.

2. Example: Retort stand, pendulum bob, string, metre ruler, stopwatch.

G) Procedure
1. The sequence of action or operation in order to carry out the experiment according to the instructions given.

2) Example:
i- Set up the apparatus as shown in Figure 1.
ii- The description of procedure must be in past passive tense, for instance:
"Measure the period of oscillation of the simple pemdulum using a stopwatch" must be written as "The period of oscillation of the simple pendulum was measured by using a stopwatch".

H) Observation
1. The listing and tabulation of all data obtained in the experiment.

2. Example:
________________________
|Length of string (cm)|   T1  |   T2  |
|_________________________|
|<----40.0------------->| 25.5 | 25.1 |
|<----50.0------------->| 28.1 | 28.2 |
________________________
* Deepest regrets for any inconvenience caused.

I) Analysis
1. Analysis of data can be carried out by plotting graph, followed by the interpretation of graph or calculation to obtain the required value.

2. Various precautions in plotting graph taken into consideration.
- All axes must be labelled.
- The graph must be labelled by a header.
- The manipulated variable should be plotted on the x-axis while the responding variable should be plotted on the y-axis.

J) Discussion
1. Discussion need to be stated to find out whether the results obtained support the stated hypothesis. Precautions of the experiment can be suggested to overcome the weakness, to reduce experimental errors or to improve the results of the experiment.

2. Example: In order to improve the experimental results, make sure that the amplitude of oscillation of the simple pendulum oscillates in a vertical plane only.

K) Conclusion
1. A conclusion is stated concerning the results of the experiment.

2. By comparing with the aim stated, this will be determine whether the hypothesis is accepted or not.

3. Example: The length of a simple pendulum is directly proportional to the square of the period of oscillations.

3. AJK's, please complete the notice board as soon as possible since the evaluation for the cleanest class contest may be done anytime in this week.

4. Submit the PIBG meeting form tomorrow. Same goes for the SPBT verification form.

p/s: The physics notes; 1.5 Scientific Investigations may be posted tomorrow but please don't place your hopes too much. I am quite busy so if I have some time to spare, I'll post it here.
